Zack Snyder Doesn't Care If Critics Hate 'Batman V Superman', Nor Should He

So what began as positive buzz from audiences following the world premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has quickly turned to complete negativity now that critics have had their say. If anything it shows the divide between those who pay for these movies and those who get paid to review them. Speaking as one of the latter, who actually enjoyed the movie quite a lot, I know for a fact some of my colleagues went in ready to trash it, and then took the opportunity to do so. Most of it stems from a general dislike for Zack Snyder's movies, and rather than going in ready to judge 'Batman v Superman' free and clear, they brought their personal feelings to the table. Does that mean the film is perfect? Hardly. But I think added weight was given to the things that were wrong rather than the stuff that worked.

So what does Snyder think about all of this? Basically, he doesn't give a shit, or at least that's what it sounds like in his comments to Yahoo. He says, “I’m a comic book guy and I made the movie based as much as I could on that aesthetic. And so I don’t know how else to do it 100%, so it is what it is." 

What does that mean? Not much, and none of it will matter if the movie crushes it at the box office. And that's the perspective star Henry Cavill is taking, adding “The interesting thing is that we get the critics who have their personal opinions. And the thing about personal opinions is that they always come from a place. And there’s a preconceived idea which you have to get past a critic before you start writing your article or your review, and that affects everything."

He continued, "What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says. Because they’re the ones who are buying tickets, they’re the ones who want to see more of this kind of story or not and so the audience’s voice is loudest and after this weekend the audience, at least partly, will have spoken.”

He's right in a sense, but my experiences tell me that some will always knock DC in favor of Marvel, even when they've taken basically the same approach to certain things. The general idea seems to be that Marvel has done everything right, which couldn't be further from the truth, while DC is doing everything wrong because they went for a darker tone, which also isn't accurate. If the movie's a hit and Warner Bros. is happy,  then Snyder will have done his job right.
