Benicio Del Toro Joins Cuban Mafia Film, 'The Corporation'
While he's been dabbling in franchises more lately, such as Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and an upcoming Star Wars spinoff, Benicio Del Toro seem to be most comfortable in crime flicks. Last year he was a dominating figure throughout Denis Villeneuve's Sicario, and let's not forget his performances in Escobar: Paradise Lost, Way of the Gun, Snatch, Traffic, and more. So it's no surprise his going back to what he does best by signing on to a gangster film that has attracted the attention of Leonardo DiCaprio.
According to Deadline, Del Toro will star in an adaptation of TJ English's upcoming book, The Corporation: An Epic Story of the Cuban American Underworld. Del Toro is set to play Jose Miguel Battle Sr., who was the head of "The Corporation", aka the Cuban Mafia. His life was rather incredible, having served as a policeman under Cuban President Fulgencio Batista, then was trained by the CIA and took part in the Bay of Pigs invasion before coming to America and establishing his criminal empire.
The film will be produced by DiCaprio's Appian Way and Paramount Pictures, so expect this one to garner a lot of attention. With no director or screenwriter attached yet it may be a while before it gets off the ground, but don't be surprised if Del Toro is joined by some A-list talent.
