Love Blossoms For Alicia Vikander In The 'Tulip Fever' Trailer
Sometimes being as prolific as Alicia Vikander was in 2015 can be a bad thing. Olivia Wilde was crazy overexposed a few years ago when she did it. But in Vikander's case it worked out, and she capped things off with an Oscar win for The Danish Girl, not to mention snagging the coveted Lara Croft role in Tomb Raider. She's got a number of projects arriving in 2016, as well, and one is the period romance Tulip Fever which has just debuted its first trailer.
Directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and co-starring Christoph Waltz and Dane DeHaan, the film was actually shot back in 2014 but sat in limbo for a couple of years. The timing is fortuitous as Vikander is a much bigger star now than she was back then, which should increase the attention it receives.
Based on the book by Deborah Moggach, the story is set in 17th century Amsterdam during a tulip craze and centers on the illicit affair between a young married woman and the man hired to paint her. How do tulips fit into all of this? Apparently the lovers will attempt to sell tulip bulbs to make enough money to run away together. The cast includes Zach Galifianakis, Judi Dench, Holliday Grainger, Jack O'Connell, Cara Delevingne, and Tom Hollander.
Tulip Fever opens July 15th.
