Marvel Is Bringing A "Cloak And Dagger' Series To An Unexpected Network
Disney is making sure their Marvel brand is a presence on as many of their networks as possible. Disney Channel has multiple Marvel animated shows, ABC has Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and the upcoming Marvel's Most Wanted, and of course they've got multiple Netflix series proving to be hugely popular with fans. But Disney's tentacles stretch far, and now they're bringing Marvel to an unlikely network, the newly-named Freeform.
Deadline reports that a series based on Marvel's Cloak and Dagger is coming to Freeform, the network formerly known as The Family Channel and ABC Family. And it actually makes a great deal of sense. The channel gears most of its programming towards teens and young women, while Cloak & Dagger centers on superpowered teenagers Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, a pair of runaways living on the streets of New York City.
The site is calling it an "interracial romance" but let's hope that isn't the series' focus but the duo were about far more than that. Many of their stories had them fighting against the war on drugs and defending other homeless kids. In terms of powers and temperament they were basically polar opposites. The brooding Cloak can teleport and connect with the Darkforce dimension, while Dagger creates weapons made of light, and can use her light powers to heal others, even curing them of their addictions.
No word on who will be the showrunner or who will star, but you can bet that news will drop soon enough.
