Star Wars Celebration doesn't kick off for a couple of months, but already Lucasfilm and others are ready for it. Today the studio launched the first episode of The Star Wars Show, which features two unwatchable hosts (I had to fast forward past them) revealing bits of new info about the entire Star Wars galaxy.
In this episode you get a funny little moment shared between 'Episode VIII' director Rian Johnson and Chewbacca. Plus they spend some time with inexplicable Internet sensation, Candace Payne aka Chewbacca Mom. They also reveal the official Star Wars Celebration 2016 poster (seen above), which is pretty cool and features characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We also get the first look at some new Stormtroopers, including the Shoretroopers, which sounds incredibly lame. I'm starting to look at the Empire's foot soldiers like the generic COBRA troops from GI Joe. Do they really need them for every terrain? Are the Shoretroopers any more or less effective than the Sandtroopers? Not really.
Also, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences has dropped a teaser for Revenge of the Jedi, which we all know by now was the title George Lucas gave Return of the Jedi for a short time. It's their way of honoring the 39th anniversary of Star Wars' release. You'll notice the teaser has zero actual footage, and a holiday release date that didn't end up happening since it actually opened in May 1983.
And just in case you aren't sick of Chewbacca Mom yet (Look, I recognize she's a nice lady, but all she did was put on a damned mask), here she is hanging out with James Corden and J.J. Abrams as they drive the TV host to work. I love these carpool segments, and even this one is kind of cute, especially her obvious adoration of Abrams. She's a true fan, gotta give her that.
