First Trailer For Luke Scott's Sci-Fi Film 'Morgan' Starring Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, And Paul Giamatti

How daunting must it be for Luke Scott to direct an original sci-fi film when his father is Ridley Scott, the man behind Alien, Blade Runner, and The Martian? Those are some huge shoes to try and fill, but Luke is giving it a shot with his feature debut, Morgan, and judging by the new trailer he's going to do just fine.

Luke has gathered a cast that his father (who is a producer, naturally) could have assembled himself. The Martian's Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Paul Giamatti, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michelle Yeoh, Toby Jones, and Boyd Holbrook all star in the film about  corporate risk-management consultant who is summoned to a remote research lab to decide whether an at-risk artificial being should be terminated or not.  Seth Owen wrote the screenplay, which found its way on the Black List.

Scott had this to say to EW about the larger themes he wants to explore...

“What ‘Morgan’ really alludes to is human beings becoming, in a sense, the creator. Not in a traditional religious sense, but an idea that we have the capabilities to become our own creator. And what I suspect could happen — we’ve seen it in all these movies, whether it’s ‘Frankenstein‘ or ‘Metropolis‘ — it’s the creation of a being that is greater than the creator."

Morgan hits theaters on September 2nd.
