James Gray To Direct Long-Developing Sci-Fi Film, 'Ad Astra'

James Gray has been eyeing a move to sci-fi for a while now, but he's been content telling smaller stories about love and romance in vastly different era. However, lately he's been expanding his horizons, like with the upcoming historical adventure The Lost City of Z. And now after a couple of years of talking it up, Gray is finally ready to move forward on sci-fi epic, Ad Astra.

Deadline reports that Gray will write and direct the film, which has absolutely no plot details at this point. Casting is gearing up now for a planned 2017 shoot, so expect some announcements to be made in the coming days. It will be interesting to see if Gray turns to some old favorites, like Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard (both starred in The Immigrant), to give the film a star power boost.

Gray is currently in post-production on The Lost City of Z which opens later this year with stars Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, and Tom Holland.
