Lady Gaga May Replace Beyonce In Bradley Cooper's 'A Star Is Born' Remake

Since the early days of Warner Bros.' planned remake of A Star is Born the hope has been to attract a celebrity pop star to fill the female lead role. For much of the time the only name attached was Beyonce, while names such as Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert Downey Jr. were considered to join her and director Clint Eastwood. But then Eastwood dropped. Bradley Cooper came aboard to star and make his directorial debut, and now it seems a different singer will be joining him.

According to Deadline, Lady Gaga is nearing a deal to join Cooper in A Star is Born, following on her Golden Globe-winning run on American Horror Story. The story is a familiar but tried and true one, centering on a hopeful actress who reaches stardom with the help of a washed-up alcoholic actor. Gaga has had film roles before, but they were mostly supporting turns in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Machete Kills, and Muppets Most Wanted. This would be her biggest movie role to date, and at least on paper it seems like a perfect fit as it should offer a chance to show off her musical talent.

Cooper is apparently weighing other offers to make his directorial debut, but this is a major project at Warner Bros. so they're going to want to move on this quick once all deals are inked.
