First Trailer For 'The Great Wall' Has Matt Damon Battling Monsters In China
Studios no longer just factor in the domestic numbers when determining a movie's success. China has quickly become the most important market in the world, and Hollywood has responded by designing films targeted for their audience. Even some of our superhero movies, such as Iron Man 3, have a heavy Chinese influence. Now Matt Damon and Legendary have gotten into the action with The Great Wall, a blockbuster film that cost roughly $135M, the biggest ever shot in China.
Damon is joined by visionary director Zhang Yimou, who gave us the vibrant House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower. And that colorful approach is one of the few stand-out aspects of this new trailer, which finds Damon as a mercenary in 15th-century China who discovers there is more to the construction of The Great Wall than meets the eye. The film co-stars Willem Dafoe, Pedro Pascal, and top Chinese actors ndy Lau, Jing Tian, Zhang Hanyu, Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Lin Gengxin, Zheng Kai, Chen Xuedong, Huang Xuan and Wang Junkai.
The Great Wall opens February 17th 2017.
