New Trailer For Natalie Portman's Directorial Debut, 'A Tale Of Love And Darkness'

Similar to when Angelina Jolie made the jump to directing with In the Land of Blood and Honey, Natalie Portman's debut behind the camera is both personal and challenging from a technical and emotional level. A Tale of Love and Darkness is based on Amos Oz's autobiographical account of the relationship he has with his mother, played by Portman, during the State of Israel's early years.

A new trailer has dropped for the drama which had its big premiere last year at TIFF, where the response was sorta lukewarm. Here's the synopsis:

Based on the international best-seller by Amos Oz, A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS is the story of his youth, set against the backdrop of the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel. The film details the young man’s relationship with his mother and his beginnings as a writer, while looking at what happens when the stories we tell become the stories we live.

A Tale of Love and Darkness opens soon in limited release, arriving on August 9th.
