The value of a red band trailer is that it's supposed to show, to audiences who dig that sort of thing, just how far the sex, violence, and vulgarity is going to be pushed. It makes sense for Sausage Party to have a red band trailer because the movie backs up the need for it. Does a boxing drama like Hands of Stone need one, though? Hardly, and the evidence is in the red band trailer that is out now.
While you might think it's necessary because of some gruesome in-ring action but that's not the case. Instead, the only racy thing about this trailer is a quick glimpse at the naked body belonging to Roberto Duran's (Edgar Ramirez) wife, played by War Dogs standout, Ana de Armas. The rest of the minute-long footage features the war of words between Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher) before their pair of legendary bouts for the Welterweight Championship.
Having seen the film (review coming soon) I can tell you that it doesn't need a red band trailer at all. Also starring Robert De Niro, John Turturro, Reg E. Cathey, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ellen Barkin, and Ruben Blades, Hands of Stone opens August 26th.
