As the winner of two awards at the Cannes Film Festival, Andrea Arnold's American Honey is ahead of the game entering the awards season. Despite the international acclaim she's earned with prior films Red Road, Fish Tank, and Wuthering Heights, an Oscar has eluded her with the exception of her win in 2004 for short film, Wasp. But on the feature side this year seems like her best shot, and you can bet distributor A24 is going to put everything they've got into making that happen.
And the drum beat goes on with the release of a new trailer featuring Shia LaBeouf, Arielle Holmes, Riley Keough, and breakout newcomer Sasha Lane, who is already being compared to another of Arnold's discoveries: Katie Jarvis. Lane plays a troubled young woman with nothing to lose who joins a band of misfits, getting into trouble and finding love while criss-crossing the Midwest.
American Honey opens September 30th and I can't wait.
