Doug Liman Trades 'Gambit' For DC's 'Justice League Dark' AKA 'Dark Universe'

Doug Liman's been sitting around waiting for 20th Century Fox's Gambit movie with Channing Tatum to be polished enough script-wise to move forward. However, he's finally had enough and has moved on to a different superhero project at Marvel's "Distinguished Competition". Variety reports Liman will direct a revived live-action Justice League Dark movie at Warner Bros., the same one Guillermo Del Toro had been attached to. THR meanwhile confirms Liman has exited the Gambit film for good, although his departure was "mutual".

The convoluted journey to the screen for Justice League Dark aka Dark Universe continues, but this is the most promising update yet. The DCU film was originally spearheaded by Del Toro as a live-action movie featuring DC's paranormal heroes. When he left the film was in limbo until Warner Bros. decided to make it part of their animated universe, instead. For good reason we thought that was the end but instead the animated movie has stirred Warner Bros. into moving forward on the live-action theatrical film.

So it looks like we'll get to see John Constantine, Deadman, Zatanna, Deadman, and Etrigan on the big screen, after all. As for Gambit...well, that's still very much in doubt although Fox hopes to move forward in January. We shall see.
