In this world of remakes and reboots, none of your childhood favorites is safe, and another one is headed to the big screen with the upcoming Jumanji film starring Dwayne Johnson. However, The Rock doesn't want you to think this will be just another reimagining, as he took to Instagram and revealed this won't be a remake, but a true follow-up to the 1995 film from Joe Johnston...
"For the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome ‘Jumanji’ story.”
That awesome Jumanji story he's talking about starred Robin Williams and was based on the beloved book by Chris Van Allsburg, Williams played a man who had been stuck inside of a board game for decades, only to be released when the magical game comes alive and its jungle inhabitants attack a neighborhood. A "sequel" titled Zathura was released in 2005, directed by Jon Favreau and based on another Allsburg novel.
So at least that's one childhood memory that won't be ruined? The new Jumanji will co-star Kevin Hart and Jack Black, hitting theaters on July 28th 2017.
