'Hamilton' Star Anthony Ramos Will Beg "Please Baby Please" In Spike Lee's 'She's Gotta Have It' Series

That we're even getting a Netflix series based on Spike Lee's breakout 1986 debut feature, She's Gotta Have It, is still kind of crazy to me. That Lee himself is directing each episode is what has me interested in seeing how it turns out. Because honestly, NOBODY can possibly hope to fill Lee's shoes as the original sneaker-obsessed Michael Jordan fanboy, Mars Blackmon. Lee thinks he's found a guy who can, though, and it's Hamilton actor Anthony Ramos.

Ramos, who played John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Broadway smash, is the first to be officially cast in She's Gotta Have It. The 10 half-hour episodes will center on Nola Darling, a young, sexy, modern Brooklyn woman who is courted by three very different men. Blackmon is one of them, and the most eccentric of the bunch. He would often desperately plead with her using his signature catchphrase, "Please baby please." The other two men are the polite Jamie Overstreet and self-obsessed model Greer Childs. I take it the series won't follow Nola all the way to her eventual conversion into a Jehova's Witness, as seen in Red Hook Summer.

Filming on She's Gotta Have It begin in a couple weeks so expect the other two suitors to be cast soon.
