New 'Ouija: Origin Of Evil' Trailer Is Scarier Than The Prior Film

While it was easy to mock Ouija for being a movie about those silly "haunted" board games we used to play to fake scare one another, the fact is the $5M horror earned $103M worldwide. Of course it came from the folks at Blumhouse who specialize in maximizing profit on smaller genre movies. And so it was no shock at all when a prequel, Ouija: Origin of Evil, was confirmed.

A new trailer for the film has arrived and it features none of the original cast, of course. Instead this one will star Elizabeth Reaser (Twilight) Annalise Basso who worked with director Mike Flanagan on Oculus, Lulu Wilson, and horror mainstay Lin Shaye (Insidious). This story takes us back fifty years to 1967 Los Angeles where a widowed mother and her two daughters run a scam as phony mediums, only to unleash actual supernatural forces beyond their control.

Flanagan's a genuine talent to watch, and Basso has proven to be a star on the rise. If you haven't checked her out in Captain Fantastic that should be rectified. While much of this trailer is pretty by-the-book, the last minute or so is genuinely creepy. Have to admit I'm kinda interested to see how this one goes.

Ouija: Origin of Evil will terrorize theaters on October 21st, just in time for Halloween.
