When Katie Jarvis emerged as the breakout discovery of Andrea Arnold in her film Fish Tank, the expectation/hope was for the fiery actress to have a long, storied career in front of the camera. Instead she pretty much fell off the map. Fortunately, Arnold's latest find, Sasha Lane, is proving to have some staying power since her Cannes debut in American Honey. THR reports Lane will headline Shoplifters of the World Unite, a film inspired by the music of The Smiths.
Lane joins Nick Krause, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Ellar Coltrane, with Joe Manganiello starring and producing. Stephen Kijak is writing and directing the film which takes place in 1987 on the day Morrissey announced The Smiths were breaking up. Fueled by sadness at the news and love for his girl, a young boy uses a gun to take over a radio station and demand the DJ play Smiths records all night long.
Lane has been keeping a low profile while steadily adding to her slate. She'll be seen next in another indie, Finding Lila.
