Adam Shankman To Direct Amy Adams In 'Enchanted' Sequel, 'Disenchanted'

There were two early roles in Amy Adams' career that won over the hearts of audiences everywhere. While I would like to think one of them was Drop Dead Gorgeous, it was her early breakout performances in Junebug and Disney's fairy tale musical Enchanted that did it. There won't ever be a Junebug sequel (although that would be kinda awesome), but the latter has had one in the works for a few years now. Seems like the kind of thing Disney would never attempt without Adams, and fortunately they won't have.

Adams is expected to reprise her role as Princess Giselle in Disenchanted, a follow-up to the hit 2007 film that showed her remarkable range. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), the film takes place a decade after the first movie and finds Giselle disenchanted with her happily-ever-after existence, setting into motion events that turn things upside down in the real world and the animated realm of Andalasia.

The hope is to get cameras rolling next summer, but of course that will depend on Adams' schedule. If that works out we could see the film in 2018 or early 2019. [THR]
