First Clip From 'Doctor Strange' Sends Benedict Cumberbatch To The Astral Plane
We're only a few weeks away from Marvel's Doctor Strange, which promises to take the MCU into some uncharted territory. The heroes have visited the Microverse, traveled inside a dead space god, and walked the rainbow bridge of Asgard, but none of them have left their physical body to traverse the astral plane. Well that's about to change.
The first clip from Doctor Strange finds Benedict Cumberbatch's eventual Sorcerer Supreme being forced into the astral plane by the Ancient One. Tilda Swinton plays the bald-headed mystic, who seems to be enjoying the chance to prove the disbelieving Strange wrong as she literally punches the life out of him. But it's only for a brief time, and once Strange returns to his physical body he STILL needs convincing it wasn't just weird shit she put in the tea. I think we're going to want an Ancient One spinoff when this is all over.
The astral plane is very important in the Marvel Universe. Doctor Strange frequently leaves his physical form to go there, but it's also a place that can be visited by telepaths and even lived in by some beings. It is a construct purely of the mind, but only the most powerful can access it. In some cases it can also be a prison where a person's mind can be trapped.
Also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, and Benedict Wong, Doctor Strange opens November 4th.
