Bel Powley And Patricia Arquette Join 'The Bell Jar'; 'Under The Silver Lake' Adds Zosia Mamet, Callie Hernandez, And More
Kirsten Dunst is getting ready to launch production on her directorial debut, an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, and she's gathering an impressive cast to be part of it. We already know Dakota Fanning and Jesse Plemons are on board, and now you can add Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette, The Diary of a Teenage Girl breakout, Bel Powley, and Nymphomaniac star Stacy Martin. Fanning takes the lead role of Esther Greenwood, who in the 1950s deals with depression while on a summer internship at a New York City magazine. We can probably expect to see Dunst drop this on the festival circuit some time next year. [ScreenDaily]
And finally we've got David Robert Mitchell, who is working on his modern crime noir Under the Silver Lake. Andrew Garfield was joined by Riley Keough and Topher Grace last week, with her coming on to replace Dakota Johnson, and now Mitchell has rounded out the cast in a big way. Zosia Mamet (Girls), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Patrick Fischler (Big Sur), Callie Hernandez (Blair Witch), Riki Lindome (Hell Baby), Luke Baines, and Don McManus have joined Mitchell's followup to It Follows. The plot has been kept under wraps but Deadline now says it "centers on a man who becomes obsessed with the strange circumstances of a billionaire mogul’s murder and the kidnapping of a girl."
