Ben Wheatley To Direct Adaptation Of Frank Miller's 'Hard Boiled'
An adaptation of Frank Miller's 1990 graphic novel Hard Boiled has been in the works for years. For a while it looked like Miller was going to direct it himself, but when The Spirit was a colossal disaster that idea fizzled out. But then the project found new life when David Fincher was attached. That was long ago and the project never happened, obviously, but if someone is going to take it over you can hardly go wrong with indie favorite, Ben Wheatley.
Wheatley will make his first major studio project with Hard Boiled, which is sort of like The Accountant meets The Terminator. Here's a synopsis for the book:
Carl Seltz is a suburban insurance investigator, a loving husband, and devoted father. Nixon is a berserk, homicidal tax collector racking up mind-boggling body counts in a diseased urban slaughterhouse. Unit Four is the ultimate robot killing machine – and the last hope of the future’s enslaved mechanical servants. And they’re all the same psychotic entity.
Sounds perfect for the director behind Kill List and the upcoming action flick, Free Fire. Hopefully Wheatley can acclimate himself to the studio structure and the tighter reins that come with it.
