This should be a fantastic time to be a fan of A.A. Milne's
Winnie the Pooh. Not only do you have Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie starring in a biopic on the author titled
Goodbye Christopher Robin, but Disney has begun development on a live-action
Winnie the Pooh movie. The latter got off to a surprising start when indie filmmaker Alex Ross Perry (
Queen of Earth) was hired to write the script, and now Disney had made another intriguing choice for the director.
Variety reports
World War Z and
Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster will direct
Christopher Robin. The film will follow an adult-aged Christopher Robin years after he befriended the titular honey-loving bear as a child. Milne based the character on his son and his favorite toy bear. The tone is said to be similar to
Ted, minus the raunchy humor. Forster is coming off a troubled
World War Z production that nevertheless managed to bank over $500M worldwide. However he wasn't asked back for the sequel. Presumably things will be much easier on this film, if only because Disney will keep a tight leash.
No word on when filming begins but with Forster on board expect some casting announcements to follow.
