Steve Carell Looks To Star In The 'Minecraft' Movie

There's still a lot we don't know about the adaptation of hit building-block video game, Minecraft. And we can't rely on who the director is because Rob McElhenney is only known for creating and starring in FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, not for his resume as a feature filmmaker. We can add one more piece to what do know, and its that Steve Carell will have a role in it somewhere.

Variety revealed the news of Carell's negotiations to star in Minecraft, with McElhenney directing from his own script. Does this mean Carell will take a live-action role or do some kind of voice work? We may not know until plot details emerge, but that seems to be one of the great challenges. Minecraft isn't your typical story-based game, it's about building anything and everything with total freedom. While there are probably some cool stories to come up with out of that, I can see how it could be a tough nut to crack.

Warner Bros., who hope this will be a 'Lego Movie'-sized hit, still has time to nail it down as Minecraft doesn't open until May 25th 2019.
