Hard to believe it's less than a month until Universal's The Mummy reboot. Doesn't feel like it, does it? Despite a big star in Tom Cruise and it being the relalunch of Universal's classic monsters universe, the lack of anticipation is glaring. But I think we all know not to count Cruise out, and the latest trailer makes the case for it as one of this summer's biggest spectacles.
Cruise plays the only guy who can save the world from an ancient evil reborn in modern times. Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond) plays the new-look mummy, continuing the actress's run of unrecognizable roles in franchises. How long this one lasts will depend on the box office, and honestly Universal is counting on this to be a hit. If it's not then their shared universe could suffer another setback, just as it did after Dracula Untold.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman and co-starring Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance, The Mummy opens June 9th.
