Make-A-Wish Kid Came Up With Hilarious "Friend From Work" Line In 'Thor: Ragnarok'
Get ready for it to get a little bit dusty, folks. Not something you'd expect to have happen in regards to Thor: Ragnarok, which pits Chris Hemsworth's thunder god in a battle arena full of alien warriors...and one Hulk. But this story may do the trick, because it has to do with one of the funniest lines in the trailer, and the sweet story behind its origin.
You know the line I'm talking about, too. It's right at the end when Thor, facing a clearly pissed-off Hulk, cheers "Yesss!! I know him! He's a friend from work!!" to a stunned crowd. Well, that line wasn't in the screenplay at all.
While we know director Taika Waititi encouraged a lot of improvisation (which may be why the film looks like so much fun), nobody could have predicted where that line would come from. Here's Hemsworth talking about it to Entertainment Weekly...
“We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day. He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!'”
Damn. Now that will lift your spirits, won't it? And it makes that line, which is already great, even better. Good on Marvel for helping to make that child's wish come true, and for immortalizing them forever in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thor: Ragnarok opens November 3rd, and now there's one more reason to check it out.
