Ansel Elgort & Chloe Moretz Solve A Murder In First Trailer For 'November Criminals'

Geezus, November Criminals still isn't out? I thought this was one of those movies that quietly got released and I simply hadn't noticed, but now I don't feel so bad. In the works since at least 2013 when Chloe Moretz and Ansel Elgort were still just getting their feet as stars, the film once had Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) set to adapt Sam Munson's novel, until she left and Sacha Gervasi (Hitchcock) came aboard to work from a Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) script. That's so much talent, how the frig could anything go wrong?

Well, like it actually completed shooting in 2015 and is only now getting what amounts to a VOD release. So clearly something didn't quite translate. Moretz and Elgort play teenaged classmates who dig deep into DC's underbelly to solve the mysterious murder of a friend, and of course they begin to fall in love along the way. Tessa Albertson, Catherine Keener, and David Strathairn co-star.

Honestly, the trailer doesn't look very good; it's way too overwrought and that score is not helping. But following on the heels of Baby Driver we may see Elgort's name be quite a draw, so who knows? Maybe the delay was a blessing in disguise.  November Criminals hits VOD on November 7th followed by a theatrical run a month later.
