At this point I don't think any of us are completely sure what is going on in the DCEU, but the status of Gotham City Sirens seemed straight forward. The latest was that the upcoming Joker/Harley Quinn movie would actually be replacing it on the schedule, and that director David Ayer was out. Well, that may not be the case if Ayer's latest tweet means anything at all. Here it is...
— David Ayer (@DavidAyerMovies) September 16, 2017
The image is from Suicide Squad and features Jared Leto's Joker and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in their brief Alex Ross-inspired dance scene. It might mean nothing at all or it could be Ayer's way of saying that he will be directing the Joker/Harley Quinn movie now, rather than Gotham City Sirens. If so, that would mean Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love) are out. Or maybe they're just handling the script?
It's totally possible Ayer just loved that particular moment from Suicide Squad. We know how much he enjoyed shooting that film, and personally I'd like to see him continue on working within the DCEU in some capacity. Hopefully this tweet means that's happening.
