For his next film, Hugh Jackman is going to get political. Jackman has revealed the first image from The Frontrunner, in which he plays Democratic Presidential candidate Gary Hart, whose 1988 campaign went down in flames after his affair with actress Donna Rice was discovered. Dude was an idiot, though, challenging the press to follow him around to prove how dull his life was. And they did. And it wasn't.
Shooting on the Jason Reitman-directed film began yesterday, and it looks like Jackman is already in fine Presidential form. He's joined by Vera Farmiga, JK Simmons, Mamoudou Athie, Sara Paxton, Kaitlyn Dever, Ari Graynor, Mike Judge, and more. It marks Reitman's return to political satire after Thank You for Smoking, and will chronicle the rise and fall of Hart's campaign to the mighty pens of tabloid journalism.
The personal lives of politicians has always been fair game, but I do think what happened to Hart marked a turning point. Things have never been the same since. The Front Runner has yet to get a release date but you can probably expect to see it next awards season.
