Sam Rockwell Is George W. Bush In Adam McKay's 'Cheney'

Adam McKay made the turn from directing broad comedies like Anchorman and Talladega Nights to more serious fare in The Big Short. Not only did it earn him an Oscar nomination for Best Director, proving he could hang without his pal Will Ferrell, but it also made a film about the housing crisis more enjoyable than it probably should've been. Now he's moving on to another "serious" topic in Cheney, and once again it seems like he'll be having some fun with it.

Sam Rockwell has been cast as President George W. Bush in the film, which will star Christian Bale as hated businessman, expert marksman, and former Vice-President Dick Cheney. Steve Carell, Amy Adams, and Bill Pullman co-star, making this a cast that should be great to see on-screen together hanging out in the White House. Rockwell certainly has the goofy sensibility that W. often sported, which almost made you forget that he was one of the worst Presidents ever. Cheney was often credited as the real power in the Oval office, and he made moves that proved controversial even among his base of supporters.

I think the natural assumption was that Ferrell would be asked to reprise his beloved Bush impersonation, but that might have been a step too far into comedy. [THR]
