Interview: Greta Gerwig Talks 'Lady Bird', Her Directing Influences, 'Wonder Woman', & More

Five years of attending and doing interviews at the Middleburg Film Festival and I finally got to talk to a personal favorite. Greta Gerwig hit the festival with her directorial debut, Lady Bird, bringing it at a time when there is a strong emphasis on female directors. The semi-autobiographical dramedy stars Saoirse Ronan as a Sacramento girl on the verge of finishing high school, and she's got dreams of leaving the nest and flying away to the east coast. Laurie Metcalf plays her mother who isn't so fond of that plan.

It's a story that mirrors Gerwig's in a lot of ways, but it's not a biopic. In the conversation me and fellow BFCA member Tim Gordon had with her, she talks about the differences between Lady Bird and her own life. She also talks about her influences behind the camera, the impact Wonder Woman has had on female directors getting recognized, and much more.
