'A Million Little Pieces' Red Band Trailer: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Is On A Brutal Path To Recovery

Drug addiction can be brutal to watch, but the recovery can be worse. That seems to be the point of A Million Little Pieces, a drama based on the bestselling-but-controversial book by literary charlatan James Frey. While the story it tells may be a giant hoax, we know that millions have been swept up in this one drug addict's journey to find a better life for himself.

The film is directed by Fifty Shades of Grey's Sam Taylor-Johnson, who co-wrote the script with her husband and star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who looks to be giving a career-best performance. Alongside him in the cast are Billy Bob Thornton, Juliette Lewis, Giovanni Ribisi, Charlie Hunnam, and Odessa Young.

SYNOPSIS: An alcoholic and a drug addict, 23 year-old James has two options: treatment or death. After waking up on a plane with a smashed up face and no memory of the past few weeks, he heads to rehab where he discovers much more than detox and therapy. As James endures the white-knuckle journey of mending his broken body, he heals his broken soul by connecting with other kindred spirits who also yearn and fight for a better life.

A Million Little Pieces opens on December 6th.

Time To Get Dirty With the 'Zombieland: Double Tap' Red-Band Trailer

It's crazy to me that, A. It took them 10 years to make a sequel to the surprise hit that we all loved, and B. They were able to get that cast back together since Stone and Harrelson have only gotten bigger since the original was released. Whatever the reason(s) I'm just glad it's happening, Zombieland is one of those endless re-watchable good-time movies that just doesn't get old, historically speaking sequels to movies like this haven't been great but...finger's crossed!

Here's the thing, this red-band trailer assures us of a few VERY important things. The cast still has that great chemistry which is what really made the first so awesome AND Rosario Dawson is in it. Ok, we knew that but seeing her in anything...especially this close to her nerdcore tendencies. While the trailer is only red-band for a few F bombs and lots of blood that gives us assurances that they aren't going to tone it down for wider audiences.

'Corporate Animals' Trailer: Demi Moore And Ed Helms Lead A Workplace Dark Comedy From 'The Overnight' Director

Patrick Brice's Corporate Animals premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and despite a cast led by Ed Helms, Demi Moore in a rare role, Deadpool 2's Karan Soni, and Booksmart's Jessica Williams, it didn't leave with a lot of buzz. Brice's latest is a workplace dark comedy, which seems to be the chosen genre for workplace movies, and like Brice's prior movies Creep and The Overnight, what starts out innocent eventually descends into chaos.

Seriously, why is it that workplace comedies always have to do with team-building exercises that turn violent? Corporate Animals follows the same pattern, with Moore playing a delusional CEO at a startup who takes her downtrodden team on a caving retreat that turns disastrous. Stranded, they quickly run out of food and...well, there may be some new positions opening up at the office.

The trailer doesn't inspire a ton of confidence because I feel like this has been done to death already. But it's really hard to get beyond that cast and Brice's stellar track record. I've learned not to trust everything I hear at Sundance and this is one that will definitely be given a chance.

SYNOPSIS: Lucy (Demi Moore) is the delusional CEO of a struggling startup aimed at millennials. In her infinite wisdom, Lucy leads her staff, including her long-suffering assistants Jess (Jessica Williams) and Freddie (Karan Soni), on a team-building retreat in the caves of New Mexico led by an overeager guide (Ed Helms). When disaster strikes and the food runs out, mandatory office bonding becomes a lot more… appetizing.

Lupita Nyong'o Slays Zombies In The 'Little Monsters' Red Band Trailer

Lupita Nyong'o has won an Academy Award, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the top-grossing Black Panther, and even had a role in a pair of Star Wars movies. She's accomplished a lot in a very short time, but 2019 is the year when she makes her mark on the horror genre. Nyong'o already led Jordan Peele's hit horror Us, but it's nothing compared to the zombie-slaying action she's part of in the horror-comedy Little Monsters.

Written and directed by Abe Forsythe (Down Under), the film gives Nyong'o a chance to shine in a way we've never seen from her before. She plays a kindergarten teacher who must protect her young charges from being devoured in a zombie outbreak, and let's just say she'll do anything to make sure they survive and not be traumatized by the experience. It's a role that requires a skillful balance of humor, innocence, and physicality, all of which Nyong'o brings in spades. On the flipside, Josh Gad may have the wildest performance as Teddy McGiggle, an obnoxious children's show host who hates kids.

It's a gory, frequently-funny film deserving of the red band trailer, and it shines whenever Nyong'o is able to make like a castmate on The Walking Dead. You can check out my review here.

Check Out the Second Red-Band Trailer for 'Good Boys'

Who doesn't love a good coming of age tale? I felt the old man in me start coming out while watching this new red-band trailer...what happened to the days of PG pre-teen shenanigans like Stand By Me (wait, that whole movie was about seeing a dead body wasn't it....). I have to imagine there will be other people with this sentiment as the date for the Good Boys release draws closer but I have to hop those folks will come to the same quick realization as I did, this movie isn't being dirty to be dirty, it's that those other movies were candy-coated. Sorry parents, odds are your little angel Jimmy Dugan Jr. is probably having some of these exact conversations with his buddies. Honestly, without the involvement of Seth Rogen I wouldn't give this movie a second chance as the trailer really shows a movie that could be surprisingly real and refreshingly hilarious or a one-trick pony, knowing Rogen's involvement is a guarantee of some level of quality is probably the reason the trailer starts with a bumper featuring Rogen. Will it be a classic like the taglines say? Time will tell but it's got potential. Check out the trailer below and look for Good Boys in theaters August 16th

'Booksmart' Red Band Trailer: Olivia Wilde's Directorial Debut Gives Zero F*cks

Annapurna have done a bang-up job marketing Olivia Wilde's high school comedy, Booksmart. While I had feared it would get walloped this week by Disney's Aladdin (To be fair, it still might), it now seems to have set itself for success either as some clever counterprogramming or as a future cult classic. The buzz for this film has been off the charts, and although my review can't go up for a few days I will say I agree with everything being said about it.

A new red band trailer has dropped, unnecessarily I think, giving us one final look at the film which stars Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever as bookish high school seniors who realize all of their hard work didn't get them any special treatment. The kids they perceived as losers all got into the same exclusive schools, so the girls decide to cram four years' worth of partying into a single night. Basically, it's Superbad from a female perspective and that really counts for something, especially in the way they talk about sex and other frank topics.

Put Booksmart on your must-see list for this week.  The film marks Wilde's directorial debut, and co-stars Skyler Gisondo, Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, Jessica Williams, Billie Lourd, and Jason Sudeikis. Check out the trailer below plus the movie's first six minutes.

'The Beach Bum' Trailer: Matthew McConaughey Gets Super High In Harmony Korine's Latest

Seven years after his neon-lit Spring Breakers took us all on a wild and raunchy trip, Harmony Korine is back with what looks like the perfect followup, The Beach Bum. Starring Matthew McConaughey in the sort of stoned-out, lazy role that were a big part of his cinematic persona for years, the film centers on Moondog, a sort-of poet laureate for the smoked-out set.

Just one look at the glowing colors and hazy aura tells you that Korine is pulling from the same mindset that inspired Spring Breakers, while the cast also speaks volumes: Snoop Dogg, Martin Lawrence (as Captain Wack!!!), Jimmy Buffett, Isla Fisher, and Zac Efron co-star, joined by Jonah Hill and Stefania Owen.

Here's the synopsis: “The Beach Bum” follows the hilarious misadventures of Moondog (Matthew McConaughey), a rebellious rogue who always lives life by his own rules. Co-starring Snoop Dog, Zac Efron, and Isla Fisher, “The Beach Bum” is a refreshingly original and subversive new comedy from director Harmony Korine (Kids, Spring Breakers).

'Piercing' Red Band Trailer: Mia Wasikowska Makes Brutal Torment Look Sexy

Of the many reasons to be excited for Nicolas Pesce's thriller Piercing, here's one that's kinda flown under the radar. The screenplay was written by Ryu Murakami, the author of the book Audition, which Takashi Miike turned into one of the most revered J-horror movies ever. And like that story about a relationship that starts innocent (innocent enough, anyway) but grows violent over time, the central relationship in Piercing ends in a very different place from where it begins.

The latest red band trailer reveals more of the kinky erotic thriller, which stars Mia Wasikowska as a woman hired by a bored husband for a wild night of uninhibited sex. But the man's intentions are decidedly darker than they appear, and little does he know the same goes for her. The film also stars Christopher Abbott, one of the most underrated actors going if you ask me, along with Wendell Pierce, Laia Costa, and Marin Ireland. Pesce is the director behind the moody horror The Eyes of My Mother, which turned heads at Sundance a couple of years ago.

Piercing hits theaters and VOD on February 1st 2019.

'What Men Want' Red Band Trailer: Taraji P. Henson Can Read Men's Dirty Thoughts

Let me give you a tip, ladies. You don't want to know what men are thinking. You might exclaim "What is HE thinking!?" all the time, but it's not something you actually want to find out. It's a cesspool up in our heads. As Taraji P. Henson finds out in the new red band trailer for What Men Want, a gender-flipped remake of the hit 2000 film that starred Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.

Henson plays a woman sick of the all-boys' club at her employer and has an encounter with a psychic that gives her the ability to read the minds of men. What's interesting is that Henson is pretty wild and vulgar already, but finds that even she can be appalled by what rattles around in men's brains. So she decides to use this newfound gift to her advantage, which we see in a star-studded poker match (featuring Shaquille O'Neal, Mark Cuban, Tracy Morgan, and others) and in a hookup with Straight Outta Compton's Aldis Hodge. That last one definitely does not go as planned.

While this is directed by Hairspray and Rock of Ages' Adam Shankman, the film is produced by Will Packer and the team behind Girls Trip.

'Nobody's Fool' Red Band Trailer: Tiffany Haddish Is Out Of Control In Tyler Perry's New Comedy

Have you had your Tiffany Haddish fill yet? Hopefully not, because you're going to be seeing a lot more of the Girls Trip breakout in the coming months, and Tyler Perry puts her front and center in his new film, Nobody's Fool. Get ready for maximum Haddish in this new red band trailer for the comedy.

Haddish plays a wild child recently released from prison, who is forced to stay with her uptight sister played by Southside with You's Tika Sumpter. Can't go wrong with that duo, and to me this looks incredibly watchable for a Tyler Perry film. Whoopi Goldberg, Amber Riley, and Omari Hardwick co-star.

Nobody's Fool opens November 2nd. And you can see Haddish right now in two films, Night School opposite Kevin Hart and The Oath alongside Ike Barinholtz.

'The Beach Bum' Red Band Trailer: Get High With Matthew McConaughey In Harmony Korine's Latest

Harmony Korine, the director who made "Spring Break Forever!!" an unexpected summer anthem six years ago with Spring Breakers. Matthew McConaughey, who exemplified the drugged-out, arrested development attitude of an entire generation in Dazed and Confused. On the surface, Korine and McConaughey seem like kindred spirits, destined to team up on The Beach Bum, which looks like a film that could only have been made while high as a friggin' kite.

And maybe that's exactly the case? Stories surfaced a while back about McConaughey smoking actual weed in his role as Moondog, a Miami poet living in a haze of marijuana smoke and alcohol. So what was up with that? Turns out McConaughey's co-star Snoop Dogg switched out the fake weed with some of that real sticky icky shit without telling anybody, and I imagine that's just the kind of thing that happens when you let Snoop on any movie set.  The film co-stars Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Stefania Owen, Jonah Hill, Jimmy Buffet, and some guy named Martin Lawrence. 

The result is what appears to be another classic character creation by Korine and McConaughey, opening with Moondog asking a store clerk if the guy sells acid. Funny stuff, and I already just want to grab a lawn chair and max out with this movie somewhere.

The Beach Bum opens next year on March 22nd.

New 'Assassination Nation' Red Band Trailer Gets Straight-Up Sociopathic

You'll find no greater supporter of Assassination Nation than yours truly. I probably had the most glowing reviews for it after the Sundance premiere in January; I've hyped up every trailer, tweeted at the cast so much they probably think me a stalker, and generally just been a cheerleader for this wildly provocative and topical film. But do I think it needs another trailer so soon before it hits theaters? Not really.

The first trailer really said everything the marketing needed it to, by shocking viewers with a series of trigger warnings. They let you know this movie was there to provoke, and any snowflakes might want to go next door and check out some Pixar shit. So everything that followed has been redundant, and that includes today's unnecessary red band trailer. The film is still awesome, but they don't need to grind it into the ground before anybody has had a chance to find that out for themselves.

Anyway, Assassination Nation is a modern parallel to the Salem Witch Trials, only this time the "witches" are four high school girls (Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra) accused of releasing all of the town's personal info as part of a widescale hack. With everybody's private business out in the open, all bets are off and the townspeople start showing their true colors, which turn out to be red...blood red. The film co-stars Bill Skarsgard, a truly creepy Joel McHale, Bella Thorne, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, and more.

Assassination Nation opens September 21st.

'Hell Fest' Red Band Trailer: A Haunted Theme Park Turns Into A Nightmarish Bloodbath

Contradiction Alert: I don't really dig horror movies, but I'm a fan of haunted houses and especially haunted attractions. So what does that mean for Hell Fest, the new horror film set a creepy amusement park that turns into a bloodbath? I don't know, but the new red band trailer has me wanting to pull up a seat and find out.

The biggest draw for me is the talent behind the camera because I sure don't recognize anybody other than Candyman himself Tony Todd in front of it. Most attractive of all is co-writer Blair Butler, who video game nerds will remember from her many hosting gigs on G4's X-Play and Attack of the Show. She co-wrote the script with Leatherface writer Seth M. Sherwood, with Gregor Plotkin of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension behind the camera. Lots of bonafides there, I think.

Here's the synopsis: A masked serial killer turns a horror themed amusement park into his own personal playground, terrorizing a group of friends while the rest of the patrons believe that it is all part of the show. College student Natalie is visiting her childhood best friend Brooke and her roommate Taylor. If it was any other time of year these three and their boyfriends might be heading to a concert or bar, but it is Halloween which means that like everyone else they will be bound for HELL FEST – a sprawling labyrinth of rides, games, and mazes that travels the country and happens to be in town. Every year thousands follow Hell Fest to experience fear at the ghoulish carnival of nightmares. But for one visitor, Hell Fest is not the attraction – it is a hunting ground. An opportunity to slay in plain view of a gawking audience, too caught up in the terrifyingly fun atmosphere to recognize the horrific reality playing out before their eyes. As the body count and frenzied excitement of the crowds continues to rise, he turns his masked face to Natalie, Brooke, Taylor and their boyfriends who will fight to survive the night.

Hell Fest hits theaters on October 28th, just in time for when you return from that haunted cornfield maze on Halloween.

'The Happytime Murders' NSFW Trailer: Melissa McCarthy Might F**k A Puppet

What is it about puppets that makes us want to see them say and do really raunchy things? I'm thinking of Insult the Comic Dog, Greg the Bunny, and now there's The Happytime Murders, which is basically what The Muppets do when they're done entertaining the kiddies. The answer? Drugs.  And murder. Drugs and murder.

The latest NSFW trailer for the film is as fucked up as you were hoping.  Loads of bodily fluids, rampant drug abuse, sex, and puppets blown away by a killer's shotgun blast. Somebody's out there murdering puppets, and two detectives, one puppet and one human played by Melissa McCarthy, are on the case. It's wild, and certainly not for the kiddos unless you're looking to scar them early.

The film is directed by Brian Henson, the son of the legendary Muppets creator Jim Henson. I'm not sure what daddy would think about the R-rated path his son has taken the family business, but I guess as long as Miss Piggy isn't giving Kermit a rimjob it's okay.

Also starring Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, and Joel McHale, The Happytime Murders opens August 24th.

'Assassination Nation' Red Band Trailer Takes Chaos To A New Level

My love for Sam Levinson's edgy, violent, and topical Assassination Nation knows no bounds; I've been a huge supporter since seeing it at Sundance early this year. That said, I understand if others who haven't experienced it are a little confused. The teaser was just a bunch of buzzwords and trigger warnings, but what is the movie actually about? To be fair, the latest trailer, a full-on red band spectacle, doesn't help matters much.

I'm afraid a shock & awe campaign is being wadged and I'm not sure it's the smartest way to hype the film when the story and cast are compelling enough. Suki Waterhouse, Odessa Young, Abra, and trans actress Hari Nef play a fearsome foursome of high schoolers who must fight for survival when a hacker shares the entire town of Salem's most personal secrets, causing it to explode into chaos. The rest of the cast includes Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, with Bill Skarsgård, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Joel McHale, and Bella Thorne. Oh yeah, it's also produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, those guys in charge of that whole Avengers: Infinity War thing.

Here's hoping further trailers lean more on the plot rather than shock tactics. Assassination Nation opens September 21st.

'Mile 22' Red Band Trailer: Iko Uwais Makes Everybody Look Like They're Standing Still

There's been a lot going on with Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg's action flick, Mile 22, and I'm guessing that's why STX Entertainment dropped a new red band trailer today. The release date was pushed back a few weeks to August 17th, and only days ago a sequel was put in motion.  Both movies suggest a ton of confidence the film will be a hit, probably banking on Wahlberg to put the most butts in seats. And maybe that's true, but the real reason to get pumped is Iko Uwais in his biggest American role yet.

Uwais is the breakout star of Gareth Evans' The Raid movies, and the dude is an absolute ass-kicking machine. The Indonesian actor has also had roles in sci-fi sequel Beyond Skyline and a little thing called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In Mile 22 he plays a high-value foreign agent who must be escorted 22 miles to safety by an elite Black Ops squad that includes Wahlberg, Ronda Rousey, and Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead.  John Malkovich co-stars as the team's boss or something. I don't know, he's a guy in a suit who looks like he's in charge.

The trailer is pretty generic, honestly, EXCEPT when Uwais shows off his fighting skills. He's truly a next level action star, and I think he's going to make Wahlberg look like he's standing in quicksand by comparison.

'Assassination Nation' Red Band Trailer: Snowflakes Need Not Apply

One of my favorite films at Sundance this year was, undoubtedly, also among the most divisive among critics.  Assassination Nation is an ultra-violent satire of our social media age, but it's also a fierce and funny look at the #MeToo and #TimesUp culture. I couldn't stop raving about it, and the buzz it generated was enough to attract NEON and the production company started by Joe and Anthony Russo to pick it up for a cool $10M. Now the first teaser is here and TRIGGER WARNING is in full effect.

Written and directed by Sam Levinson and starring Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, and Abra, the story takes place at a high school where a hacker has started revealing all of the most private secrets of the students, and eventually the entire town of Salem. In this social media haze four best friends have their lives turned upside down by the fallout, and must band together to survive one deadly night.  The rest of the cast includes Bill Skarsgard, Anika Noni Rose, Maude Apatow, Colman Domingo, Joel McHale, Bella Thorne, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

Assassination Nation opens September 21st.

'The Predator' Red Band Trailer: The Hunt Is Truly Evolved In Shane Black's Anticipated Sequel

It was only two weeks ago that 20th Century Fox dropped a trailer for Shane Black's The Predator, and already they are back with a longer, more violent cut for the red band crowd.  Perhaps the rapid fire trailers is in response to news that Fox will be bringing the film to Comic-Con where it's sure to find a rabid audience of fans eager for the Predator's return.

The film is a true sequel, following up on events of Predator, Predator 2 and between Predators, so the three best movies in the franchise by far.  The Predators are lured back to Earth when a kid (Jacob Tremblay) makes a discovery of some alien tech. That puts them on a collision course with a team of rangers who are largely the focus of this new footage. Too bad for them these Predators are of the mega-deluxe variety.  The rest of the cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Yvonne Strahovski, Augusto Aguilera, and Jake Busey as the son of his father's character in Predator 2. Continuity!

Here's the synopsis: From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

'Upgrade' Red Band Trailer: Logan Marshall-Green Goes Haywire In Leigh Whannell's Souped-Up Revenge Flick

Logan Marshall-Green gets a bad rap for being the "poor man's Tom Hardy", but he's doing a pretty good job of charting his own course. He was scary good in The Invitation a few years ago, and now he gets a chance to lead a kickass-looking action flick in Upgrade, from The Conjuring 3 director Leigh Whannell.

This new red band teaser gives you a good looking at the man/machine insanity, which finds Marshall-Green as a man who is given an experimental Artificial Intelligence upgrade that turns him into an unstoppable killing machine. As he sets out on a quest to avenge his wife's murder, he discovers that the A.I. has, *shocker*, a mind of its own.

I saw this a few days ago and really dug how Whannell embraces the haywire concept, while also giving fans of his horror work some decent gore to indulge in. Also keep an eye out for my interview with him.

'Hotel Artemis' Red Band Trailer And Clip: Jodie Foster Fixes Up The World's Worst Criminals

Hotel Artemis may not be set in the same world as John Wick, but it has the benefit of looking like it should. Set in a wartorn near-future Los Angeles, the film takes place in a hospital strictly for criminals, who are bound to follow a certain set of rules. Of course, these being a bunch of villains those rules get broken and shit hits the fan. Sounds a lot like the criminal infrastructure within John Wick's The Continental hotel, and with a star-studded cast led by Jodie Foster it could be the sleeper film of the summer.

At the helm is Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce, who has surrounded Foster with a cast that includes Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther), Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde) Jenny Slate (Venom), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Kenneth Choi (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Charlie Day (Pacific Rim).  What, they couldn't find someone from Star Wars, too? They play various lowlifes making their way through the hospital, which has rules banning weapons and violence against other patients. Of course, when an item of great value is discovered all bets are off.

Pearce, who also wrote Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, can handle large ensembles and chaotic, blockbuster-sized action. Looks like he'll need those skills for this, and I can't wait to see if he can pull it off. My expectations are through the roof. That scene with Bautista, who plays a friggin' orderly, getting talked down to by Day had me rolling. Bautista also features in a new clip which finds him having to rein in the situation when someone can't verify their membership.

Hotel Artemis opens its doors on June 8th.
