The Hangover 2, Movin' Out of Vegas!
Far and away the best comedy of 2009(and the best adult comedy since Old School) was The Hangover. Director Todd Phillips' drunken haze film went on to gross over $200M earlier this year, so obviously talk of a sequel couldn't be far behind. We've known for awhile that it was in the works, but Phillips has gone on to reveal a few details about the upcoming story.
-Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, and Zach Galifianakis are definitely returning. No word on if Justin Bartha, who played the only sane member of the crew last time around would be returning. Personally I'm hoping Heather Graham makes an appearance as well.
-The script is half finished already, and instead of exploring the same territory as last time, the story will take place in an entirely new city. Probably another party town. I can see New Oreleans during Mardi Gras as a potential setting for more craziness.
-Phillips will also be handling the scripting chores this time around rather than writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. That shouldn't be a big deal, though, since Phillips wrote the aforementioned Old School. Which, while great, I have to admit doesn't hold up quite as well as I'm betting The Hangover will.
Phillips also had this to say...
"What people loved about The Hangover was not Las Vegas or the bachelor party but these three characters. I think you can take those characters and put them in other situations, and you don’t need the sell of Vegas and a bachelor party and all that other stuff."
It's good to see that he has a handle on what fans really latched onto with the last film, which was more than just the location. The fact that he has such an affinity for these characters makes me think this sequel could potentially be better than The Hangover was, but we'll just have to wait and see.
