1. Avatar- $30M/$594M
Is there anything left to say about Avatar at this point? It'll be the highest grossing domestic film of all-time by the end of the week. It's already the highest grossing film worldwide of all-time. And now it's surpassed the $2B benchmark.
2. Edge of Darkness- $17.1M
Kindof a lukewarm reception to Mel Gibson's first starring role in 8 years.Surprising, considering the success of Taken, which also featured a middle aged action hero seeking revenge for his daughter. Hard to say whether or not this has anything to do with Gibson's off camera comments from a few years ago, but that didn't stop his two directorial efforts from success.
3. When in Rome- $12.1M
3rd place is too high for a film that had arguably the worst marketing I've ever seen. All you guys out there who got dragged to this, I'm sure it's been a rough couple of weeks. You probably got yanked into seeing Leap Year, too, didn't you?
4. Tooth Fairy- $10M/$26.1M
$8 of that $26.1M total is mine. Pity me.
5. The Book of Eli- $8.77M/$74.4M
A pretty average drop, an average box office tally, for a slightly above average film.
6. Legion- $6.8M/$28.6M
Ouch. Somebody must've shot the wings of those angels, because Legion crashed and burned, losing 61% this week. Ouch.
7. The Lovely Bones- $4.74M/$38M
Well, Peter Jackson's adaptation of the book isn't quite dead yet. It's somewhere In-Between.
8. Sherlock Holmes- $4.51M/$198M
9. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel- $4M/$209M
10. It's Complicated- $3.72M/$104M
