The idea of a Smurf live action film has filled me with dread ever since we first reported on it...sheesh, back in 2008 or something? I'm afraid that yet another of my childhood favorite cartoons is going to be crushed under the boot heel of Hollywood remakes, just like they did Alvin & the Chipmunks. But there is actually good news regarding the project. Not good enough to make me suddenly optimistic, but it's better than nothing.
Deadline.com is reporting that Neil Patrick Harris(Doogie Howser M.D., How I Met Your Mother) has signed on to star as the principle villain to the little blue creatures in their upcoming big screen adventure. Raja Gosnell, who directed the esteemed Beverly Hills Chihuahua, remains on board to direct.
NPH was great in both Harold & Kumar flicks, and he's been hilarious the few times I caught him on How I Met Your Mother(in between my oggling of Alyson Hannigan). Maybe he'll be enough to illicit a few chuckles in between tears of rage.
