Despite my better judgement, it seems I've been posting quite a bit about the Smurfs movie lately. I'm having such a hard time putting it all together in my mind how this thing is going to work that it's become sorta fascinating watching it take shape. A flurry of casting notes hit today, starting with the addition of voice guru Hank Azaria as the voice of Gargamel. Azaria is the guy responsible for the voices of many of The Simpsons most popular characters. I take this to mean that Gargamel won't be human, afterall, but a CGI creation.
Also on board is singer Katy Perry, who will lend her voice to Smurfette. In the cartoon, Smurfette was the creation of Gargamel sent to sew discord on the all male village.
As it stands right now, the talent involved is pretty impressive. Neil Patrick Harris, who it was assumed would play the human villain of the film, is on board. He'll be joined by Jayma Mays(Glee) who is playing his wife, Alan Cumming(The Anniversary Party), George Lopez(Valentine's Day), and Jonathan Winters(The Flintstones)
EW has more on the story, which you can read right here.
