Poster for Sofia Coppola's next film, Somewhere
I await the next film by Sofia Coppola the way a crackhead joneses for his next fix. After just three very effective films, including one that is locked in my all-time Top 5, she's established herself as one of the industry's heavyweights. And she's done it without really making a film that is marketable to...well, anybody.
So when I first heard about Somewhere, which stars Stephen Dorff(Blade) as a Hollywood A-lister living a life of excess at the exclusive Chateau Marmont, I took notice. Dorff is joined by Elle Fanning(Phoebe in Wonderland), who plays his eleven year old daughter who shows up and turns his life around. Coppola has a habit of making deeply personal films with elements taken directly from her real life. She did the same with Lost in Translation, which was rumored to have been based in part on her relationship with Spike Jonze. This one could be a reflection of her time growing up as the daughter of legendary director, Francis Ford Coppola. Regardless, what looks to be the first offical poster for the film has been released. Check it out and let us know what you think of Sofia as a director.
