1. The American
This might come as a shock, but The American just had the 4th biggest Labor Day weekend opening ever. Weird, huh? But then again it had something of an advantage since it technically opened last Wednesday. In keeping with the more mature, European tone of the film, 66% of the audience was over 35 years old.
2. Machete
Robert Rodriguez's blade wielding vigilante immigrant swung it's way to a better overall weekend than it's predecessor, Grindhouse, besting it by nearly $3M. Then again it also had an extra day to work with. When compared by typical weekend standards the numbers are virtually identical.
3. Takers
Somebody stole 47% of Takers' audience! Not that it matters. It's more than made up the estimated $32M budget.
4. The Last Exorcism
Somebody must've cast a curse over the Eli Roth-produced horror as it dropped a massive 66% from last week. Ouch.
5. Going the Distance
Ouch. I guess people really don't wanna see the on screen shenanigans of real life couple Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Going the Distance flopped by pretty much every rom-com standard. At this rate there's little chance of it matching the numbers of the film it's most compared to, 500 Days of Summer($60.7M worldwide)
6. The Expendables
7. The Other Guys
8. Eat Pray Love
9. Inception
10. Nanny McPhee Returns
