With Hardy's schedule all but booked up thanks to his long since verified role in The Dark Knight Rises, not to mention McG's This Means War, there was little chance he'd be able to squeeze this rapidly growing project into his schedule.
Snow White and the Huntsman has been all the buzz thanks to the script by Evan Daugherty(Grayskull), and the hiring of Rupert Sanders as director. With a ton of Snow White projects currently in development, this one has the most going for it by far. The story would be a reimagining of sorts, focusing on Eric the Huntsman, sent by the evil queen to track down and kill Snow White. In this version, he refuses to complete the job and instead goes on the run with her.
I haven't been much of a fan of Depp as an actor lately, but that's mostly because he's been playing cartoon characters in Tim Burton flicks for the last ten years. This might be a chance to see him really flex his acting muscles again, but only time will tell. I still would've preferred Hardy, because I want to see him have as many chances as possible to become a household name. Inception
