Tops at the Box Office

1. Saw 3D- $24.2M
Pitched as the "final" chapter in the years long Saw series, Saw 3D out performed last year's woeful effort by $10M. It's still way off in comparison to when Saw was in it's heyday. This one had the included help of increased 3D ticket pricing, so while attendance is certainly down profits more than make up the difference.
2. Paranormal Activity 2- $16.5M/$65.7M
Paranormal Activity nearly sent Saw into early retirement last year, and it may out perform it again this year as well. However in it's second week, PA2 dropped 59%, a bit hefty even for horror. At this rate it's not going to surpass Paranormal Activity's total, but certainly this is a respectable number after only two weeks.
3. Red- $10.8M/$58.9M
4. Jackass 3D- $8.43M/$102M
5. Hereafter- $6.25M/$22.2M
Even though the total number of sites showing Clint Eastwood's latest rose by nearly 300, it still dipped 47%. Ouch.
6. Secretariat- $5.07M/$44.8M
Tied with Red for the smallest drop of the week, Secretariat continues to hold strong even if the overall total isn't that high.
7. The Social Network- $4.7M/$79.7M
8. Life as We Know It- $4.1M/$43.6M
9. The Town- $2M/$87.7M
10. Conviction- $1.82M/$2.38M
Nice to see the Hilary Swank/Sam Rockwell docudrama getting some love, as it expanded to more than 500 sites this week. However the total is still pretty mediocre. Perhaps the increased ad campaign and eventual Oscar buzz for the two stars will give it a push.
