1st look at Angelina Jolie's directorial debut

The last time I remember Angelina Jolie being this personally involved with a film it was the humanitarian aid worker flick, Beyond Borders. Not that she was directing or producing that project, but her real life experiences as a Goodwill Ambassador were an influence. Her directorial debut, an untitled romance set during the Bosnian War, has been the subject of more controversy than anything else. The film is reportedly about a couple, a Serbian man and Bosnian woman, who get separated in the midst of the war. Rumors that the storyline revolved around a rape victim falling in love with her attacker proved to be false, but women's groups got the production moved from Bosnia to Budapest anyway.

Those issues aside for now, we're getting our first look at a single image from the film. It doesn't show much, but it does give us a glimpse of the two main stars,  Zana Majonovic and Goran Kostic.

The image comes courtesy of a Hungarian newspaper, brought to our attention courtesy of The Playlist. The paper also has an interview with Jolie, who clues us in on a couple of tidbits about the production. Most notable to me is two versions of the film were shot, one in the native language and another in English. Also she's contemplating releasing the film in black and white. Hmmm...a subtitled black and white film about a war most people don't even know ever happened? Way to minimize your audience!
