Graham Greene's 1938 novel, Brighton Rock, was first adapted for the big screen back in 1947. For it's release here in the States the title was changed to Young Scarface. For this updated version, writer/director Rowan Joffe(The American) has kicked the setting into the 1960s, following the demise of sociopathic criminal, Pinky Brown(Sam Riley).
I'll be curious to see how much of Brown's many disturbing traits make it into this version of the film. Pinky Brown is a character who has become twisted by his strict Catholic upbringing. He loathes sex, finds women to be inferior on every level, and is obsessed with the consequences of committing mortal sins. He thinks he's found a chance at a normal life when he meets Rose, a woman who knows about his crimes and could go to the police. She's got a few issues of her own, let's just say.
I'm liking the trailer, especially Helen Mirren who seems to be back in full Prime Suspect territory. The film stars Sam Riley, Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis, John Hurt, and Andrea Riseborough. Check out the trailer below, followed by the film's synopsis! As always, let us know what you think!
