Fast and the Furious 6 already in the works? Dwayne Johnson to get a spinoff?
It's not often that any franchise gets better and more exciting as time goes on, but I've liked the last two Fast and the Furious movies more than any of the previous ones. Fast Five, which is currently set to hit theaters on April 29th, could be the best of the bunch with the addition of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a federal agent in hot pursuit of Dom(Vin Diesel) and Brian(Paul Walker). If the series really is getting better with age, then the best could be yet to come. Producer Neil Moritz says that he and Vin Diesel are already talking about the story for a sixth film. He tells Collider...
Moritz: In Vin and my mind we already know what the sixth movie is, we’ve already been talking about it. Vin and I have had numerous conversations about what that might be. And we’re starting to get serious about it right now. We just finished the movie like 4 or 5 weeks ago and we just needed a break, and now we’re gonna start focusing on that.
At the rate they've been going, all the F&F's have made an extraordinary amount of money, they could continue this thing for years as long as Diesel remains committed. But it's clear Moritz isn't resting on his laurels. Dwayne Johnson has mentioned in the past about the possibility of his character spinning off into his own franchise, and Moritz took a moment to address any progress on that front...
Moritz: No we have not started, but we are about to.
Spinoffs are rarely as successful as the source franchise, and with the recent performance of Faster, I don't know how wise of a move this is. It remains to be seen if that spinoff actually happens. I imagine it'll depend a lot on how well Fast Five does.
