Tops at the Box Office

1. The Rite- $15M
Another soft week at the box office is won out by Anthony Hopkins' exorcism flick, getting off to a slower start than The Last Exorcism did($20M) just last year. While this is by no means a stellar debut, it does fall in line with Warner Brothers' projections.
2. No Strings Attached- $13.7M/$39.7M
The Ashton Kutcher/Natalie Portman comedy tumbled an average 30% from last week.
3. The Mechanic- $11.5
The only other major theatrical release was right on par with typical Jason Statham-led actioners(Crank 2 tallied $13M, Transporter 3 $12M), but generally good word of mouth may bounce it along through some soft competition the next few weeks. Let's hope, because it's a fun ride.

4. The Greeen Hornet- $11.5M/$78.8M
5. The King's Speech- $11.1M/$72.2M
The Oscar surge continues for The King's Speech, jumping up an incredible 41% from last week, helped out by an additional 900 theaters.
6. True Grit- $7.6M/$148M
7. The Dilemma- $5.48M/$40.6M
8. Black Swan- $5.1M/$90.7M
After 9 weeks, Natalie Portman's other top 10 film continues on towards $100M, only slipping a minuscule 13% from last week.
9. The Fighter- $4.05M/$78.4M
10. Yogi Bear- $3.17M/$92.5M

As usual, Oscar nominations led to other big upswings in business for a number of films. Danny Boyle's 127 Hours earned $2.05M and a surge of over 800 additional theaters. Blue Valentine, featuring the critical acclaimed performances by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, earned $1.16M and saw it's theater count leap to over 400. Biutiful, which earned a Best Foreign Language film nom plus Javier Bardem for Best Actor, helped it debut at over $8,000 per site.
