Another slice of 'Pie' on the way; Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, Seann William Scott confirmed for American Reunion
Back in 1999, American Pie firmly set itself as the R-rated teen comedy to beat, bringing back a level of raunch and comedic debauchery we hadn't seen since the days of Porky's. Three American Pie movies all proved to be big hits, culminating with 2003's American Wedding, which saw the characters played by Jason Biggs and Alyson Hannigan tie the knot. Combined the three films have taken in over $750M worldwide, showing the world that if we Americans are good at anything, it's finding unique things to do with pastry. The franchise has lived on in seven(!!!!) direct-to-DVD spinoffs. All suck. Period. Last year we heard the first concrete news about a theatrical return of the series, with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg(A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas) rumored to be writing the script. Hope everybody saved room for more pie, because the old cast is starting to come together.
THR reports that Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and Eugene Levy have all signed on to American Reunion, the fourth real film in the franchise. Universal is also looking to bring back other series regulars like Tara "Big Lebowski 2" Reid, Thomas Ian Nichols, Chris Klein, Jennifer Coolidge, and Mena Suvari. What about Shannon Elizabeth? You got me. Natasha Lyonne has fallen off the map ever since she went bonkers. No word on Eddie Kaye Thomas, either. And what about Alyson Hannigan, you ask? Well, unless Jim and Michelle got a divorce, I'll bet Universal will come calling. Funny how things change. She'd be the biggest star of the bunch by far. Is anyone surprised that Biggs and Levy are two of the first to sign? Levy has been more than happy to be in the terrible DVD movies, while Biggs has seen his career flounder.
Hurwitz and Schlossberg's script is still at play, and the duo will be directing as well. Chris and Paul Weitz made their names directing the franchise, but will only be on board to exec-produce.
