While Hayley Atwell is probably best known for her performances in period pieces(
Brideshead Revisited

,
The Duchess
), she's set to hit the mainstream in a huge way as Peggy Carter in
Captain America: The First Avenger. After that, she's set to jump into the realm of seedy film noir as
Variety reports Atwell has signed on to
I, Anna
, based on the 1986 thriller by Elsa Lewin.
Variety describes the film
as being “told from the point of view of a femme fatale who falls for the detective in charge of a murder case.”
Amazon
details it as a "stark tale of a woman's revenge, set in the singles' bars and clubs of New York City."
The aforementioned femme fatal would be Charlotte Rampling(
Swimming Pool
, one of my faves!), and Gabriel Byrne is the detective she gets the hots for. Atwell will play Rampling's daughter, Emmy. Bill Milner(
X-men: First Class), Eddie Marsan(
Happy Go Lucky
), and Honor Blackman(
Bridget Jones' Diary
) are on board as well.
This marks the directorial debut of Barnaby Southcombe, who also happens to be Rampling's son. Ewww, I'd be a little creeped out casting my mom as a sexy seductress.
Keeping a close eye on this one and hoping it makes it's way to our shores in the coming months.
