but I'm betting more people recognize Lara Croft than they do whoever Milla Jojovich's character is. The Eidos produced video game franchise has been a blockbuster ever since it debuted back in 1996, featuring the adventures of a sexy, tight short wearing adventuress. In 2001, Angelina Jolie established herself as the premier female action in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
. That was followed up by a less successful sequel in 2003. While the Tomb Raider video game has recently become quite popular again, the film rights reverted from Paramount back to Eidos. And now GK Films, producers of The Tourist, have snapped up the rights and plan to reboot the film franchise in 2013. Deadline has the press release, which emphasizes the plan to "create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft". In other words, don't expect to see Jolie anywhere near this one.
Nothing on writer/director front as of yet. More than likely GK will want to cast a relative unknown or a less established actress for the Lara Croft role. Somebody they can build a franchise around, as the release clearly states the intention to make multiple films. For some reason I think Emily Browning might make an impressive Croft.
