Tops at the Box Office: Fast Five races into 1st

1. Fast Five - $83.6M
Hey, Universal finally scored another knockout! Not only did Fast Five score Universal it's highest debut weekend ever, beating out The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but it's also the best opener of 2011. Not that that's saying a whole lot. The fifth film in the series also out paced expected foreign  grosses, earning another $81M overseas. So those hoping this would be the last of the bunch might as well temper those dreams for another year. F&F 6 is already on the fast track.
2. Rio- $14.4M/$104M
The second film to be based in Rio de Janiero surrendered most of it's 3D screens to Hoodwinked Too, and so it suffered it's biggest drop to date at 45%.

3. Madea's Big Happy Family- $10.1M/$41.1M
4. Water for Elephants- $9.12M/$32.3M
Since the Twilight fans didn't make it out to see their pretty boy Robert Pattinson in this old-timey romance, it's been up to the adults to keep it afloat. So far so kinda good, as it fell roughly 46% from last week.

5. Prom- $5M
I don't even really know what Prom is except that it's by Disney. It looked like some made-for-TV bullcrap featuring ABC Family rejects, which might explain why nobody other than a very tiny niche of folks made their way out to see it.
6. Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil- $4.14M
Lets' me be frank: This movie never should've been made. The original Hoodwinked came out in 2005(!!) and earned about $100M worldwide, which is decent but hardly enough to warrant a sequel. It's not as if Hoodwinked became some sort of cult classic. Now this one, released in 3D, has done so poorly it might break the record for lowest grossing 3D film ever.
7. Soul Surfer-  $3.3M/$33.8M
8. Insidious- $2.69M/$48.3M
9. Hop- $2.56M/$105M
10. Source Code- $2.53M/$48.9M
