DC Comics has the most storied and diverse catalogue of superheroes in the business, so with a very few of those having movies in development why would Warner Brothers choose to push ahead on a Hawkman film? That's apparently what's happening as ItsOnTheGrid reports that the project is moving ahead and is already being pitched to writers. The film will be produced by Adrian Askarieh, Gregory Noveck and Will Hackner. Akariah has a number of video game and comic adaptations currently in development, such as Kane and Lynch
Hawkman has one of the most confusing origins ever for a superhero, with every new writer seeming to take great joy in muddying up the waters. The most recognized version involves an Egyptian prince reincarnated in the body of 1940s archaeologist, Carter Hall. He discovers a rare metal known as "Nth Metal" and devises a belt which enables flight. The next version involves an alien named Karter Hol(ingenius!!!), a young police officer on the planet Thanagar. There have been a few others variations on the character, but all hold a few similarities, such as the use of archaic weapons(like maces) and frequently partnering with a female named either Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman. DC has tried to reconcile the many origins of Hawkman, to mostly laughable effect. In fact, the character was considered so toxic to sales at one point that DC forbid writers to even use his name in their stories.
So what would this film version of Hawman be about? Which origin would they choose? The logline gives us a hint....
Part INDIANA JONES/DA VINCI CODE, part GHOST tentpole about the fictional superhero that appears in D.C. Comic books. He used archaic weaponry and large, artificial wings attached to a harness made of the Nth metal that allows flight. Most incarnations of Hawkman work closely with a partner/romantic interest named Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in his fight against supervillains. Based on the DC comic.
Really? Indy and Ghost
