Even though Ed Helms got his big break when he joined The Office, he didn't make a big screen splash until he became part of "the wolfpack" in The Hangover. Since then he proved to me at least that he's more than capable of headlining his own comedy with Cedar Rapids, and again as the best part of The Hangover Part II. That film's $500M+ success appears to have made Warner Brothers anxious to stay in the Ed Helms business, as they've just picked up a comedy pitch from writer Rob Pearlstein as a starring gig for him.
The film is titled True North, which will also have Helms serving as exec-producer. The premise sounds a little wonky, to be honest. He'll play a pompous TV travel show host who falls into a coma after a plane crash. He awakens a couple of years later with a new face, and everybody back home thinking he's dead. He returns home to try and win back his family, which he had been alienating for years.
Helms will be coming back for season 8 of The Office, and he's got a couple of other films lined up(The Lorax, Jeff Who Lives At Home) so how this will fit into his schedule is anybody's guess.
