Universal is killin' it right now with their casting for Snow White and the Huntsman. I'm almost willing to give them the edge now over Tarsem Singh's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. The last 24 hours have seen a flurry of amazing character actors taking on the roles of the dwarfs in the film. There were rumored to be eight of them in Rupert Sanders' film, but it's sticking to the standard seven apparently. Ian McShane was revealed yesterday to be playing Caesar, the leader of the group. And today Eddie Marsan, Toby Jones, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, and Stephen Graham all came aboard. Now THR reports that the always awesome, gruff voiced Ray Winstone(Sexy Beast) has signed.
All of the dwarfs are named after former Roman leaders, and are described as being more barbarian-like than in the Disney version. Marsan and Winstone will play the twins, Trajan and Hadrian. Jones is the timid dwarf named Claudius. Izzard is the toughest of the bunch, Tiberius. Hoskins is Constantine, the oldest and wisest. Graham is Nero, the angriest. They join Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Sam Claflin.
Shooting begins this summer, with a planned June 1st 2012 release.
